I'm going to explode crazy style if I hear another word about Dolma.

—Selda Demirci about the food she ate constantly in her time loop.

Selda Demirci is the Double Demigod[1] offspring of Hephaestus and Ptah, who took on her Turkish ethnicity after being born where Turkey was founded several years after her birth. She was essentially put into a time loop by her Godly Parents because they couldn't handle the idea of losing her, so instead she repeated the same day of eating the same food for... way too long...

Currently, she hobbles around as a Magician and just hanging around Camp Half-Blood (Which used to love tormenting her with being shoved into random people's quests, ironically how she met certain people.)

i have motivation.. i swear.. just let me lock in rq 🥀 (this 'bout to be the only oc i probably finish within a good time)

Personality Type[]

  • INTP - A
    • Selda's personality type is INTP (Logician) ─ Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Prospecting and Assertive.
      • Introvert - 83% : Selda is not interested with the idea of interacting with her peers. They're a person who does not enjoy any conversations and preferably keeps it as few as possible. However, isn't against deep or meaningful conversations with a few numbers of people. Which includes Athena, one of the main reasons Selda isn't the most fully fledged introvert.
      • Intuitive - 67% : Selda teeters around it and often is very neutral regarding hidden meanings and distant possibilities. Usually, it depends on what it may be about. Though, she is decently open-minded and has quite the imagination. Which references her imagination that allows her to create things others don't always understand how it functions. Both with weaponry, and simpler things.
      • Thinking - 63% : Selda is someone who is terrible at what others call 'social harmony' or just recognizing another person's emotions. She is a rational person who focuses on the objectivity of things and what is best for efficiency. The hard truth is what she gives most people, which some people tend to forget with her, seeing she is a humorous person who has a tendency to be less 'mature' than standard. Essentially, they aren't a person who 'beats around the bush' to spare someone's feelings.
      • Prospecting - 63% : Selda is not at all stable when it comes to scheduling, work and other stuff that Athena and her children would definitely have a heart attack about. She does things last minute, with a half-scrapped half-done plan that usually is abandoned ten minutes into her actions. And backup plans? Yeah, doesn't know them. Though can improvise and is very adaptive, others doubt it at first. Some days, they start projects and don't get back to them until a month later because a surge of energy. It is just how they work.
      • Assertive - 58% : Selda is an opposite of worry warts. She is surprisingly very resistant to stress and has the most even temper someone has ever seen. Having a great supply of energy, not an overwhelming amount of positivity or negativity, helping them stay self-assured. Even after all that happened, she knows how to stand still on her own platform.

Traits[]

  • Admirable
    • On the contrary to Selda, others have on several moments considered her a very admirable person. Not just for their feats, but the kind of person she is. They're considered relatively respected for her abilities. Along with receiving great approval by her peers, with the exception of approving exactly of her abnormalities.
  • Reliable
    • To an extent, Selda is considered a reliable person. She can keep a promise to do something, get somewhere or bring something somewhere. And never fails in her quality. However, when it comes to the time span, it isn't exactly their strongest field. As she can take a day to make an axe-like weapon, but the second time she makes the same one, they can take up to five days. Since deadlines and a sense of time definitely isn't Selda's thing.

Description[]

Fatal Flaw[]

Fears[]

Known[]

Cibophobia

  • The medical term for the irrational fear of a specific food, all food, or a category of food.
    • One of the first fears that Selda had developed in her life was the fear of food. And in her case, a specific food. Dolma: a family of mashed food services heavily associated with Ottoman cuisine. The typical collection made into Dolma is any kind of rice, minced meat, seafood, minced meat, fruit; the contents are mixed inside of either grape leaves or a hollowed-out vegetable. Lemon flavoring is common in the rice or vegetable. While Selda was in her time loop, this particular food she had eaten over and over again. And now, when she hears or sees it, she tends to go quiet or may leave the area where the food is located. Seen when Tantalus was 'testing' her, placing the sight of the food on a platter, during the Sea of Monsters. She didn't leave her cabin for two days after the occurrence, and after his departure, she claimed she should've had one of the harpies gouge his eyes and yank his tongue out.
Unknown[]

Hypochondria

  • The medical term for the irrational fear of illness.
    • Selda's petrification of illness traces back to her youth, when she was much younger and was deathly ill. Sometimes, she doesn't even realize just how terrified she is of just being sick. Because it triggers something in her, reminding her of what happened all those years ago. And if she were to ever fall ill, she'd never tell someone, in fear that she'd go through the repeat of her past. This also stems from the idea that her Godly parents would trap her in another time loop, her fear being influenced by trauma.

  • Dyslexia
    1. The first thing presented to show Selda's identity as a half-blood had been her undeniably strong dyslexia. Due to her Greek divinity, her brain is heavily hardwired for Ancient Greek. Making other languages a jumble, and even sometimes a bit blurry to her. However, unlike the average demigod, theirs is significantly worse and tends to be a much bigger problem for them. She is trying to get better with the help of Athena, with the goddess occasionally stopping in to help her.
    2. She curses out the Hermes cabin, who love to prank her by taking advantage of her worsened angle of dyslexia in comparison to most of them. And sometimes, her brain mixes together Ancient Greek and Ancient Egyptian (Occasionally Egyptian Arabic) and confuses herself by the mixture.

Weapons[]

Fadiha Rager

Fadiha Rager, the beloved weapon of Selda Demirci.

One of the many weapons that Selda possesses, is Fadiha Rager, the word, "Fadiha" meaning, "Dirt" in Arabic. The weapon was made completely by Selda, who harvested everything necessary for it herself. The flail of the weapon was created out of Celestial Bronze, however, the rest of it is made of Adamantine.

Fadiha Rager is a unique weapon that is personally designed just for Selda, who cherishes the weapon that seems to have never failed her when she uses it. The weapon takes on this interesting design that isn't found anywhere else, for it has the body of a flail, but instead of the spiked ball, it is replaced with a scythe's blade. With intricate carving along the blade, believed to be similar to the writings of ancient runes.

Even though the weapon itself appears to be older in age, it is purposefully designed this way, by Selda themself. The weapon takes on an almost rusty look to it, however, when the light hits it, the flail glows into a warm gold, like a standard Celestial Bronze material. While the blade shimmers into a silver - light green, like a standard Adamantine material. All of her weapons are designed to look of age, which has successfully fooled her opponents before.

Blood Reaper

Blood Reaper, one of Selda's retired weapons.

One of Selda's weapons, was her Blood Reaper. A weapon made purely of Adamantine and was deemed too dangerous and risky to use outside of camp. As the weapon has in the past, hurt a mortal, due to being pure Adamantine. The weapon now resides as a skeleton hand, often located on one of her newer weapons, or her shoulder.

Blood Reaper is one of Selda's first weapons she had put together, and she takes great pride in it. However, it is a deadly weapon, that according to Leo Valdez, is some kind of contraption that looks like it came straight out of a saw movie. With the weapon being where Selda got her inspiration to make her weapons look in some way or form, beat up and rugged. Creating the illusion that they weren't stable, either fooling or intimidating opponents.

After she had originally made the weapon, they made their title and spot in camp. Known for being a madwoman, who frightened the younger campers whenever she came around. The weapon also influenced her future role in weaponry, where she could surpass even children of Ares.

Finisher

Finisher, a high-tech weapon of hers.

The Finisher is the deemed more professional title for her weapon. It is one of Selda's more high-tech kind of weaponry that has a subtitle of, "Electric Finisher". It was made by boiling hot molten lava and celestial bronze. And inside both the bladed axe and handle, is a complexity of wires that are uniquely put together.

What makes Finisher such a peculiar weapon, is what it can truly do. The weapon morphs into a simple metal bullet, that is discreetly put on Selda's person, making it nearly impossible to identify until the last minute. When Finisher is used, it can electrocute the person it is being used on. However, the number of volts that shoots through someone depends on the pressure applied to the handle of the weapon. The maximum voltage seen is 10,000, and is estimated to take over a minute to recharge up to 10,000 again.

It is rare for Selda to use Finisher, only using it against more dangerous opponents when she is prepared to take their life. Hence the name of the weapon. And in the series, Finisher was only used once on scene and was implied to be used a second time, however, off page.

Others[]

Hakma

Hakma, a wooden carved owl.

Hakma is an ordinary item that Selda keeps in her workshop, high up on a shelf with a clear view of her mechanics and workbooks sprawled on her main table. It is carved out of wood, made by Selda who created it as an offering for Athena originally. As even though not many are aware, she is an active devotee of Athena and associates the goddess in her work quite a bit. And when she can, takes the input of the goddess, more than she does her father.

However, according to Athena and Selda, once the goddess became closer to her devotee, she begun to use the carved owl as her way of watching Selda. Using the eyes of the wood carving to observe her work, and Selda likes to call the owl her 'security cameras' when she is absent from her main workshop. As Athena can essentially sense any presence that enters the workshop, able to recognize if it is Selda or not without even looking now.

The name of the carved owl was chosen by Athena, it is the Greek word for Wisdom. And occasionally, Selda addresses the wooden owl as 'Lady Hakma' otherwise, 'Lady Wisdom'.

Divine Greek[]

Hephaestus

Hephaestus, her Greek Godly father.

Hephaestus and Selda weren't exactly the healthiest father and daughter relationship. The two turned to be very distant in present day, and both have their issues with one another. But in Selda's perspective, she is essentially scared of her Greek father. Showing discomfort at the mention of his name, or whenever a new camper turns out to be one of his children.

Selda revealed to Clarisse La Rue of her fear and inferiority towards her father. When regarding how different she is treated in comparison to one of her Greek half-siblings, like Leo, who is favored by him. How she internally felt that if she were a machine, her father would be less disappointed in her, or would have more faith in her.

Seeming, she hadn't gotten over her past. That she feels her father can't see past the little child inside Selda, and she feels trapped whenever around him. And what is unique to their relationship, is that it is a bad relationship all because Hephaestus believes his daughter will fall again in the end. That he is afraid to put faith in her, just for her to fall deathly sick again and he'll lose her. As to Hephaestus, the concept of death for Selda, annoyingly frightens him. And his determination to keep her like a mechanical robot, which included dips into his darker side, has broken their relationship.

Hera art

Hera, her Divine Greek grandmother.

Perses (Titan)

Perses, the Greek Titan.

There wasn't much information given throughout the series about what exactly went down between Selda and Perses. However, what is known is that she was forced under his care during the events of The Titan's Curse. And from implications, it is likely their relationship had been toxic, even though it is confirmed that Perses did genuinely care for her.

Friends []

Camp Half-Blood[]

Clarisse La Rue (1)

Clarisse La Rue, a fairly known friend of hers.

Clarisse La Rue and Selda Demirci had an interesting friendship. One that not many people would initially expect out of the two, however, they're surprisingly on great terms with one another. While most people in camp looked up to Luke Castellan, Clarisse 'looked up' to Selda. While others in camp were closer to Luke, Clarisse was closer to Selda. In the aspect that Luke and Selda were physically similar in age during the unraveling of the series.

As seen in the main series, Selda was often around Clarisse and treated Clarisse in a similar fashion to Luke towards Percy. (Not exactly the same, obviously). Which also meant, she was unusually close to Cabin 5, the Ares kids. And especially during Capture the Flag, where Clarisse was always very willing to get Selda on her team.

Selda is one of the fewer number of people that actually understand Clarisse, and to an extent, is similar to her. Regarding the two's Greek parents. With Clarisse being one of the only people Selda actually talked to about her father, Hephaestus, and her feeling of inferiority and fear towards him. That unlike his other children, Selda was considered a differently special and difficult child of his. It was one of the ways the two bonded, between two fathers who saw them differently.

GroverUnderwood

Grover Underwood, a distant but good friend.

Rachel Elizabeth Dare

Rachel Elizabeth Dare, a decently close friend.

House of Life[]

Carter Kane

Carter Kane, an older friend of theirs.

Selda & Carter were one of Selda's first friendships with mortals. She hadn't ever gotten close to the occupants of the House of Life; however, Carter was the first exception. She was considered someone who essentially 'trained' Carter, showing him the aspects of what he never knew. And according to Carter, Selda was unique and surprised him by the abnormal knowledge she had.

And for Selda, Carter was an unexpecting influence to Selda. Subconsciously, she looked up to the younger man. Admiring his natural leadership, something that she never exactly had. (Nor, admittedly ever wanted.) But to her, it was something honorable about Carter. And according to Selda, Carter was much more mature than her.

She doesn't see Carter nearly as much as she used to, seeing Camp Half-Blood became a bit more permanent for her stays. Although, whenever she returns to the House of Life or occasionally the Brooklyn House, Carter isn't against welcoming her. Wishing for her safety.

Walt Stone-Anubis

Walt Stone/Anubis, a surprisingly close friend.

Gods/Goddesses []

Athena (Viria)

Athena, one of the closest goddesses to Selda.

Selda and Athena go back decently far, and the two share mutual respect between each other. However, for Selda, she looks up to the goddess like she does no other. And to other campers, some are surprised, or even jealous of how Selda is recognized by the goddess. But for her, she just wishes to honor the Lady of Wisdom. Being one of Athena's best devotees.

Some view it as ironic that Selda is devoted to the goddess and is fairly close to her. Seeing her Greek father, Hephaestus, is also fairly close to Athena. By sharing their agreed disdain of Ares. It is one of the subtle ways of showing Selda's similarity to her father, being closely associated with people that he is also in contact with. However, Selda isn't always fond of that and tends to beat around the bush whenever Athena mentions her father.

Yet, despite all of that, Athena and Selda are great companions to each other and in a light aspect, Selda views the goddess in both respect and an almost maternal, motherly way. Often being grateful to take Athena's feedback and doesn't mind that the other tends to watch over her. Seeing Athena wishes to assure Selda is safe, while also curious about the complexity behind the double demigod's unique ways.

꧁ Etymology ꧂[]

Selda

  • The first name, Selda, is a technical Turkish name that comes from a variation of the German name, Zelda. With the name itself meaning, "gray battle" or "dark battle." However, the name is often a short form of Griselda, referring to "woman of exceptional patience." The name is diverse, being used for both a first and last name.
    • She was given this name in reference to where she had been left after her birth into the world. Where her two Godly Fathers had left her amidst a battle, which had no victory and only a dark drape of death. Having been left there for a long period of time, referencing her exceptional patience, despite only being a baby.

Demirci

  • The surname, Demirci, is an older and traditional Turkish last name that to other countries may be used as a middle name. However, middle names were uncommon in the early times of Turkey, making it unlikely to be seen as a middle name. The last name itself meaning, "blacksmith."
    • She had been found by a man who wore this surname, referencing his status as a blacksmith and a temporary warrior of the battle. It also references Selda's future subtly, to having a partial occupation of a blacksmith.

She somewhat holds a position similar to Chiron, often assisting the centaur at camp. Though, she has started being out of camp more.
  • She knew about Luke backstabbing camp before most people and had openly threatened the son of Hermes. Which also explains why he kept his distance from Selda and became more levelheaded about each of his steps into his plan.

  2. Unlike her half-brother, Leo Valdez, she is considered canonically unattractive overall because of her Greek father, Hephaestus. Whereas Leo is still seen as cute in some ways. However, some still do take appeal in her abnormal aesthetic.
