“ | Every star in the night sky is a glimmer of hope. When stars fall, that hope falls with it. The sun is a star too, and it falls every day, but it always rises again. Hope, will always rise again. But you won't. | ” |
—Kazumi to Typhon in When Stars Fall |
Kazumi Ryusei is a fourteen-year-old Japanese-born Greek demigod, the daughter of Astraeus and Mizuki Ryusei. She is also both a Roman and Greek Legacy of Venus, Zeus, and Hermes through her maternal ancestors, Aeneas, Perseus, and Odysseus. Kazumi was formerly a major recurring character in the second half of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series before being promoted to main character in the Heroes of Olympus series and tritagonist of the Trials of Apollo books, later becoming the central heroine of the Daughter of the Stars trilogy. She is the Head Counselor of the newly built Astraeus Cabin at Camp Half-Blood, the Champion of Hades, Hestia, and Hecate, and the Chosen Acolyte of Chaos. In The Sword of Storms, Kazumi was officially adopted by Grace Stoll, making her the adoptive younger sister of the Stoll Brothers. She is currently in a relationship with Souta Nezumiya.
History[]
Early Life[]
Kazumi Ryusei was born February 27th, 1997, to Astraeus, the Greek Titan God of dusk, stars, constellations, zodiacs, astrology, and astronomy, and Mizuki Ryusei, a legacy of Venus, Zeus, and Hermes, in Aomori, Japan. While pregnant, Mizuki developed preeclampsia, and had eclampsia during childbirth, resulting in her being put in a medically induced coma. As such, Kazumi was mainly raised by her grandparents, Tsukasa and Natsuki Ryusei, two legacies who were the heads of a Yakuza family, as Astraeus left when she was an infant. Growing up, Kazumi was raised to survive by her grandparents, but being a kind-hearted child, she ended up resenting them for the things they did, and wished she could meet her mother. However, in reality, Tsukasa and Natsuki constantly worried about her, knowing she had more God blood than them and would attract more monsters.
Growing up, Kazumi often made friends at school, but was never allowed the freedom to go anywhere alone due to her attracting monsters. Though she loved and learned from her grandparents, she grew up sheltered enough that she barely knew anything about the real world, but was often told stories of Greek Mythology as a child. When she was around eight, she heard that another Yakuza family, the Nezumiya family, had moved to American after their son was labeled a menace to society for setting a hospital on fire, and began to wonder who this child was and why he would do such a thing. After asking her grandparents, they told her that he was like her.
Moving to Canada[]
Soon after, Kazumi was attacked by a hellhound on her way home from school, but was saved by her grandfather, who then decided with her grandmother that it would be better to move to North America where Astraeus could better watch over his daughter, though they chose Canada instead of the United States, as they wanted to still be able to use the metric system, and they knew most of mythology lived down south. Leaving her mother in Japan, Kazumi moved to Montreal with her grandparents and began going to public school, where she learned most of her broken English, as well as Canadian French. Despite being ADHD and Dyslexic, Kazumi somehow managed to not get expelled every year, make friends, and not get bullied for long periods of time.
In Canada, Zeus, Venus, and Hermes realized that the lines of Perseus, Aeneas, and Odysseus, were still alive, and as such, more monsters began to sense her presence. One day, Kazumi came home to her grandparents arguing with a well-dressed man, who she later realized was Zeus, and heard them talking about her father. Kazumi asked who they were talking about, and Zeus asked if she knew who her father was, and Tsukasa told her to go to her room while they talked. While upstairs, Kazumi heard her grandparents tell Zeus that his presence only endangered her, and he told them that they were endangering her even more by not telling her who she was. Afterwards, Natsuki told Kazumi not to bring up her family to strangers, as there were people who didn't like their family and would hurt her.
Abandoned[]
A year later, when Kazumi was nine, her grandparents were given visions of Kazumi's future by Hermes, and were ordered by Zeus to leave her alone and allow her make her way south to America. As a result, Tsukasa and Natsuki moved back to Japan while Kazumi was at school, leaving her alone and defenseless, something she never understood. Lost and alone, Kazumi eventually found an entrance to the labyrinth, and made the choice to enter.
When Kazumi was ten, she was still in the labyrinth the majority of the time, surviving on pure luck alone, until her luck ran out and she was surrounded by monsters. However, she was saved by Nico di Angelo, who wondered how a young child could be down there, and decided to let her stay with him. After that, Kazumi stuck with Nico while traveling the labyrinth, and Nico both protected her from the monsters and helped her improve her English.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians[]
The Battle of the Labyrinth[]
Kazumi was first seen in the Iris Message Bianca sent to Percy, and he noted that she seemed to be about the same age as him, maybe a little bit younger, but wondered why Nico was traveling with another person. Later on, Kazumi and Nico ran into Percy, Annabeth, Tyson, and Grover, and Kazumi seemed to be hiding behind Nico, likely afraid of Tyson. At Triple G Ranch, Geryon made a deal with Percy to let all of them go if he cleaned Geryon's stables, and he agreed. While he did that, Annabeth questioned Nico about Kazumi, and he told her that she was a demigod like them, abandoned by those who were meant to care for her. Annabeth asked Nico if she could bring her to camp, and deciding she would fit in better there, Nico agreed and told Kazumi to go with her, to which she reluctantly agreed.
After meeting Hephaestus, Percy, Annabeth, and Kazumi went to go find the creatures in Hephaestus's forge, and after Percy decided to stay behind to help Annabeth escape, and Annabeth kissed him, Kazumi asked if she liked him, to which Annabeth turned red and denied, and Kazumi smiled knowingly. At camp, Kazumi was placed in Hermes Cabin as an unclaimed demigod, and watched during the Battle of the Labyrinth, lacking the experience and size she would need to fight. During the battle, Kazumi stayed with the Apollo Cabin and helped their healers work by bringing them supplies, After the dust settled and Percy went home, he noted that apparently, Kazumi had earned the title of "The Untouchable", because the Stoll Brothers refused to let anyone prank her as they did with most new campers.
The Last Olympian[]
A year later, Kazumi, now twelve, was still living in Hermes Cabin, as she was still unclaimed, but she had made friends at Camp, and seemed to learned more English. On the Princess Andromeda, Percy found a golden ring with an adamantine centerpiece, and later on in Atlantis, Poseidon told Percy to give it to Kazumi when he got back to camp. Later on, as Annabeth rallied the Camp to make their way to the Empire State Building on Percy's orders, the camp having made him their leader, Travis approached Percy and asked where he found the ring, and Percy told him it was in the ship, and Poseidon told him to give it to Kazumi. Connor told him that Chiron had said it was the same sword that once belonged to Perseus, the mythological hero, and after thinking for a moment, Percy said that it was a mystery for another time.
Later on, Kazumi fought in the Battle of Manhattan, and while surrounded, apparently unleashed a supernova that blew up a good chunk of Kronos's forces, before being claimed by Astraeus. After the War ended, Percy wondered about her, considering what had happened in the past weeks, especially as she was still in Hermes Cabin since she was a child of a God who didn't have a cabin.
Between the Series[]
After the Second Titan War, Kazumi developed a close friendship with Percy and Annabeth, and was distraught when Percy went missing a few months later. In between the Wars, Percy noted that Kazumi was growing up faster than she should be mentally, and was beginning to act like an adult despite not even being a teenager yet.
The Heroes of Olympus[]
The Lost Hero[]
That winter, Kazumi, Annabeth, and Butch Walker, son of Iris, arrived at the Grand Canyon after finding three new demigods who apparently could lead them to Percy. After Kazumi told Annabeth they didn't know anything and to stop harassing the three new demigods, Jason, Leo, and Piper, the six of them returned to Camp Half-Blood, and crashed the Apollo Cabin's chariot, to the dismay of Will Solace. Leo was almost immediately claimed by Hephaestus, and Annabeth told Will to take him to his siblings. However, before he left, Leo asked Kazumi how old she was, to which she said she was twelve, asking why that mattered, and Leo asked if they were in a child army camp, before getting dragged off, and Annabeth told the other two that they probably didn't want to know.
As Drew Tanaka drags Jason off to the Big House, Kazumi, knowing how she acts, decides to follow after her. Kazumi watched Jason and Chiron talk in Latin, confusing all of them. Annabeth, Piper, and Rachel come in and put all of their information together, coming to the conclusion that it's possible the Roman Gods are still active. That night, Jason is revealed to be a son of Zeus, who he initially calls Jupiter, and Piper is claimed by Aphrodite. The three of them are sent on a quest to free the captured Hera in Québec, and before they leave, Kazumi tells them that her family has an empty house in Montreal from when she lived there if they end up desperate enough to need it, and tells them that to find Hera, they may need to find the master of the wind spirits that attacked them. Kazumi tells them to find Aeolus to find them, and to find them, they would have to interrogate one of the wind gods, preferably Boreas as he is the friendliest. Piper asks her how she knows that, and Kazumi tells her that the four wind gods are her brothers, causing Jason to decipher who her father was.
When the three of them returned, they have a counselor meeting, which Kazumi is now allowed to attend as she is the only child of Astraeus in the camp. Jason also reveals that during the Titan War last summer, the Roman demigods were the ones who stormed Mount Othrys and he himself defeated the Titan Krios. The council decides on a plan: build the Argo II and find the Roman camp in San Francisco. Annabeth and Kazumi asked to come with them, and Jason agreed, revealing that their missing half-blood, Percy Jackson, the leader of the Greeks during the Titan War, traded with Jason to the Roman camp and has probably no idea who he is.
The Son of Neptune[]
After his quest, Percy finally regains his memories, including his memories of Kazumi. Now 13, Kazumi is seen on the Argo II when it arrived at Camp Jupiter.

Appearance[]
“ | You know your eyes are beautiful, right? Actually, I take it back. You're beautiful too. | ” |
—Souta to Kazumi in The Son of Stone |
Kazumi is teenager of Japanese descent. She has wavy, shiny black hair going down to her waist, a porcelain complexion, and dark brown doe eyes, which seem to change between brown, blue, purple, black, and galaxy colored. At 5'0", she is the shortest of The Eight, and tends to give off "the youngest" energy. Due to her heritage, her skin has a cool undertone, and she seems to somewhat emit a silvery glow around midnight. Though small and very obviously young, many have stated that after talking to her for a few minutes, it's quite easy to tell that she is extremely mature for her age. According to Percy, Kazumi's doe eyes and small figure once gave off childlike innocence, but as she grew older, she she began to look more tired constantly, though still young.
Kazumi seems to prefer wearing lighter colors, especially sage green as it is her favorite color. She tends to wear white, light blue, or sage green, and has custom made CHB shirts as she doesn't seem to like wearing orange very much. She often wears skirts in the summer, and baggy jeans or leggings in the winter, and like Souta, doesn't find America very cold and rarely wears American winter attire. She tends to wear sandals or sneakers, but wears combat boots while outside of camp in case of a battle. As a figure skater, she does have a somewhat athletic build, but overall is quite skinny, to the point where some people have wondered if she's unhealthy or being neglected, which Kazumi has found somewhat annoying. She also often wore her hair down while on the quest to stop Gaea.
During the three Lunar Quests, Kazumi began to wear her hair up more often, as she needed it out of her face, and as such she began to wear braids or ponytails. During the quests, Connor noted that she was beginning to look more tired and had bags under her eyes, sometimes even at midnight. After a while, she began to wear navy blue and darker purples with black jeans more often, something that Souta noticed and worried about. During the final stretch of the Typhonomachy, Souta noted that Kazumi seemed older than she was before, before noting that her eyes, while tired, had remained very pretty, and she had as well. As the Acolyte of Chaos, Kazumi seems to be more serene rather than innocent, and seems to have matured more. By the end of When Stars Fall, she seems to be less tired and is happier than ever.
Personality[]
“ | She acted as mature as an adult, but she was really the youngest among them. Sometimes he forgot that she was barely thirteen, and this was her first real quest. | ” |
—Leo about Kazumi in The Mark of Athena |
In the beginning, Kazumi was a young child who seemed to be a bit shy, hiding behind Nico while meeting Percy, Annabeth, Tyson, and Grover for the first time, and seemed to be afraid of Tyson due to his height. Despite her age, she seemed to be quite perceptive, and showed to be a bit playful as she began teasing Annabeth after she kissed Percy then immediately denied liking him. At camp, she showed to be able to make friends easily, as she had already gotten the Stoll Brothers to refuse to prank her or let any one prank her. She demonstrated her bravery at a young age after fighting in both the Battle of the Labyrinth and the Battle of Manhattan, and seemed to grow up a bit after being claimed.
In The Lost Hero, Kazumi had adjusted to being a counselor fast, and it seemed that she had become less of a child despite still being twelve. She calmly welcomed Jason, Leo, and Piper to camp, taking Leo's curiosity about her age well and offering them advice for their quest as if she had been on one herself. As a teenager, Kazumi is reserved, quiet, somewhat shy, and cautious. Extremely intelligent, she thinks before she acts, sometimes to the point where she takes too long to consider her actions. Extremely kind-hearted, she is a person who enjoys helping others, but is often treated like a child due to her age and appearance. Though realistic, she tries to be optimistic, being a voice of hope and reason for The Eight, but can be a bit clueless at times due to how much she was sheltered as a child.
Despite her gentle nature, Kazumi has a few problems with stress, as seen in The Mark of Athena. She can become stressed easily when under pressure, which influences her ability to read English, and she has stated multiple times that she wished for once, she could talk to someone in her native language. In The House of Hades, Kazumi tried to remain positive and encourage the remaining members of The Eight, but it eventually became obvious that she was stressed and worried for Percy and Annabeth. While in the Balkan peninsula, Kazumi helped the group by translating for anyone they came across and needed to talk to, increasing her sense of loneliness, as she could talk to all of these people, but not understand any of them. After discovering her heritage and ancestry, Kazumi began to further understand why she was the way she was and why she could do what she could do, but even Leo could tell that she had too much stress for someone her age, and was acting more and more like someone who was growing up too early.
In The Blood of Olympus, Kazumi seemed to be growing more and more into herself and her powers, and was beginning to take on a leadership role within the group. While in Ithaca, Kazumi recolonized that she was in the home of her ancestor, and seemed to be angered that it was taken over by Gaea's forces. When Jason was stabbed, she reacted calmly while Piper panicked, and showed how mature she was for someone her age throughout the Giant War. In The Trials of Apollo, Kazumi seemed to be happy for her friends as they found new lives away from quests and danger, but seemed to resent the fact that she would be the last of them to grow up. After watching Jason's death, she showed a darker side to her personality in The Tyrant's Tomb, taking on Caligula on her own and brutally burning him from the inside out until he died.
In The Sword of Storms, Kazumi was growing tired of being a demigod, and seemed to just want to settle down and live her life without being sent on a quest every year. However, she also expressed sadness over how all of her friends when she first came to camp had either died or gone to college, especially since Connor, who at that point was her foster brother, was leaving her as well in a year, and she'd be alone again. Feeling left behind, Kazumi acknowledged that maybe she acted older than she was because she was afraid of being left behind and hated always being the youngest. Though no one could solve her age problem, she gained her other half after meeting Souta, who was Japanese like her and could speak her own native language with her, something she hadn't experienced in years.
In The Son of Stone, Kazumi showed to have grown close with Souta, wanting him to reconcile with his family as they looked for Asteria as the second Lunar Quest. Kazumi showed her leadership skills alone for the first time, seemingly more confident in her abilities than she was as a child. Now having a mother figure, she felt less alone in the world and less abandoned.
In When Stars Fall, it was finally shown why Kazumi was so afraid of being abandoned, as she had been abandoned many times in her childhood. While searching for the third Lunar god Selene, Kazumi explained more of her childhood, bringing her new, found family to her biological family, but becoming catatonic afterwards. Helped out of her depression by Souta and Connor, Kazumi expressed that once Typhon was defeated, she wanted to just be able to grow up and be happy, something that she felt all of her friends had achieved, save for Jason. In the end, Kazumi refused immortality, stating that she wanted to able to grow up, and finally got what she wanted as Chaos granted her one year without having to do any demigod duties to the world, albeit while learning about her new role. Though Percy told her she had a lot of childhood to make up for, Kazumi said that she had the rest of her life to live.
Fatal Flaw[]
Kazumi's fatal flaw is temptation to deliberate. Always cautious and a bit of an overthinker, she prefers to carefully consider every possible scenario before acting, and will always listen to both sides of an argument to avoid conflict, causing her to never trust herself. Though her caution has saved her many times, it has also kept her from growing into herself. As time went on, Kazumi learned to understand and control her fatal flaw, learning to act on instinct and trust herself and her friends.
Fears[]
In the Daughter of the Stars trilogy, it was revealed that Kazumi has a deep sense of autophobia, or fear of being abandoned, stemming from her childhood. She feared being left along as her friends grew up and moved on while she was forced to stay behind due to her age, and did not want to lose her friends to aging. Though she wanted to grow old, she didn't want to grow old while all of her friends were always older.
Abilities and Tools[]
- ADHD: Like most demigods, Kazumi was born with supernatural alertness and keen senses that keep her ready for and alive in battle in the form of ADHD. It also allows her to analyze her opponents fighting style as well as pick up minor details about an opponent, such as where their muscles tense so she can tell which direction they will attack from.
- Dyslexia: Kazumi's brain is "hardwired" for ancient languages, in her case both Ancient Greek and Latin, though more so with Greek as she is half Greek while only a small part Roman.
- Multilingualism: Being born and raised in Japan, Kazumi is completely fluent in speaking, reading, and writing Japanese, as it is her native language. As such, she is also able to read some Chinese characters, though not as well as Frank. After living in Montreal for years, she is fluent in speaking Canadian French, though she cannot write in it and it is so different from Hazel's Louisiana French that they can barely communicate. Kazumi also somewhat understands traditional French due to her being a legacy of Venus. Being American by citizenship, she is somewhat fluent in English, though she sometimes mispronounces words or speaks with an accent, and struggles to read English due to her dyslexia, more so when she is stressed. Due to her being a legacy of Hermes and descendant of Odysseus, she is also able to somewhat understand most languages, more so with Balkan languages such as Bulgarian, Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian, Slovenian, and Macedonian, and seems to somewhat know the Cyrillic Alphabet. She is also able to speak Greek decently well, partially due to her already knowing Ancient Greek.
- Morse Code: Kazumi was taught Morse Code by Annabeth sometime before the Battle of Manhattan, and uses it often to communicate with her and Leo. However, there is sometimes a language barrier between the three of them, as Kazumi often forgets how English words are spelled.
- Metric System: Being Japanese by birth, European by heritage, and at one point Canadian by nationality, Kazumi knows and prefers the Metric System, stating that the American Standard System makes no sense whatsoever and is completely irrelevant to the rest of the world. According to Annabeth, at one point, Kazumi refused to learn the Standard System after hearing that there was no set variable each unit was multiplied to get to the next, unlike the Metric System where each unit is multiplied by or divided by ten.
- Basic Survival Skills: Taught by her grandfather, a Roman legacy, Kazumi knows many basic survival skills such as starting fires without matches or lighters, tying knots, navigation (though it is quite useless to her during nighttime), and intermediate mortal first-aid.
- Sewing: Taught by her grandmother, Kazumi is skilled at sewing and crochet, and would often fix the clothes of her friends while on the Argo II or make mini crochet animals for them in her free time.
- Cooking and Baking: Taught by her grandmother, Kazumi is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to cooking and baking, and was taught by her grandfather which wild plants were edible. She also often bakes cookies, as when she was younger, she started offering them to her older friends when they argued to stop them, and now that she is older they use this to get free cookies, though she doesn't seem to care. Also, according to Connor, if there is Ramen within a ten mile distance, Kazumi can find it, though Souta has stated and proved that he can do this as well.
- Skating: As a figure skater, Kazumi is extremely skilled at ice skating, and has shown to be able to do most on-ice tricks off ice as well.
- Dreams: Like most demigods, Kazumi has dreams that show her events occurring in the past, present, and future. Due to the power of her bloodline as a whole, Kazumi's dreams are a lot more potent than those of other demigods. At some point, Kazumi also learned the ability to jump between dreams, even jumping into the dreams of much older and stronger demigods such as Souta and Andrea.
- Superhuman Durability: As a demigod, Kazumi is much more durable than the majority of the mortal population, though not as much as children of more powerful Gods. As such, she is immune to mortal disease, and can withstand much more blood loss and blunt trauma than an average human. At one point, she was even able to withstand a tornado created by Typhon, even after fighting Hayden a few minutes before.
- Superhuman Strength: As a demigod, Kazumi is much stronger than ordinary mortals, though her size and general lack of fighting makes her much less capable than older demigods such as Connor.
- Superhuman Reflexes: As a demigod, Kazumi's reflexes are significantly better than most mortals, and most demigods as well due to her experience ice skating.
- Superhuman Agility: As a demigod, and one with a small build, Kazumi is extremely agile compared to most demigods, especially due to her size and speed. She was able to dodge multiple hale attacks from Typhon, several slashes from his acolytes, and according to Percy, is quite good at climbing the rock-climbing wall at Camp Half Blood. However, her height does pose a slight disadvantage at times, such as when she needed Connor's help to jump a flat wall fence while he and Souta could jump over it easily.
- Fighting Skills: Taught by her grandfather, Kazumi is an adept hand-to-hand fighter, and according to Reyna, kicks with such precision and strength that it can be downright terrifying at times. Though not the strongest sword fighter, she was able to hold her own against less masterful opponents as a young child, and improved greatly after being taught by Hazel. She also picked up a few skills by watching other demigods such as Percy, Connor, and Souta, and was able to decapitate multiple opponents, albeit usually with divine help.
- Archery Skills: Kazumi is a skilled archer, a little bit over the level of Frank, and seems to prefer ranged combat over melee when she has the opportunity.
- Intelligence: Though her temptation to deliberate can be a problem at times, Kazumi is extremely intelligent, being able to formulate plans in seconds, decipher the meanings of riddles and metaphors made by oracles, decipher the motives and true intentions of others easily, and clearly remember past occurrences even after years. According to Annabeth, Kazumi is getting more and more intelligent as she grows up.
- Leadership: Though Kazumi herself has stated that she prefers to be a follower, partially due to her usually being the youngest of any group she's in, she does have great leadership abilities in her own right. Being a naturally calming presence, she is easily able to get others to focus or stop arguing when needed, and was able to lead her quest, which included two sons of Hermes, to success with barely any internal-conflict.
“ | You may think you are not as powerful as your friends, possibly because of me, but you are wrong. You scattered Typhon, little one. That takes more power than any Olympian has ever been able to obtain | ” |
—Astraeus to Kazumi in The Stars Fall |
As the daughter of Astraeus, Kazumi is an extremely powerful individual and power-wise one of the strongest demigods in the franchise, even without her legacy and blessing abilities. Though not as powerful as Big Three demigods such as Percy, Jason, Thalia, and Nico, the abilities Kazumi inherited from her father make her an extremely dangerous foe, and even Jason has admitted that he would fear for his own life if he was forced to fight an older, more experienced Kazumi. By The Tyrant's Tomb, Kazumi had mostly gained full control over her powers, and was able to hold her own against Caligula with just her powers while he was still immortal. Kazumi is also the one who defeated and scattered Typhon, who scared even the Big Three Gods and had only ever been temporarily defeated, even by Zeus himself, and has contributed to the salvation of both Olympus and the world as a whole on multiple occasions.
- Photokinesis: As the daughter of the Titan God of stars, Kazumi has the ability to control and generate star light, including light from the sun, to a very high degree. During nighttime, she is able to summon the light from any star, most commonly Hamal, Aldebaran, Pollux, Altarf, Regulus, Spica, Zubeneschamali, Antares, Kaus Australis, Deneb Algedi, Sadalsuud, and Alpherg, the brightest stars of the twelve Zodiac constellations. During daytime, she is able to summon light from the sun itself (which confused Apollo and caused him to come to the conclusion that he is a star), which is much stronger due to how close the sun is to Earth compared to all other stars. In high-level shows, Kazumi has shown to be able to create solid, sharp blades of solidified light, which she once used to decapitate an enemy, and as such, she is likely able to shape light into any form imaginable. In combat, Kazumi is able to shoot balls of concentrated UV light, burn enemies with star light, and, though only with the sun, set enemies on fire, though after defeating Caligula, she decided never to use this power again.
- Light Absorption: Kazumi is able to absorb star light at will, which seems to serve as a healing agent to her. She is also able to use star light to increase her own temperature to the point where her touch can melt snow, but prefers to only make herself a personal heater, as it suits her own morals better. Kazumi's hands are also warm at all times, which is how her friends tell if she's still alive or not.
- Pyrokinesis: Though extremely minor, Kazumi has shown to be able to use star light to start small fires, which can then grow into larger fires. She commonly uses this ability to set arrows on fire before shooting them, but usually doesn't want to use her strength to start a fire for herself and/or her friends, as she already knows how to do it the mortal way.
- Nighttime Strength: As the daughter of the Titan God of Dusk, Kazumi is significantly stronger during nighttime, can see in the dark, and is re-energized when the sun sets to the point where she is rarely able to sleep when it is dark. However, this also means that she crashes almost immediately when the sun rises, and is extremely weak around noon, often sleeping during the day when she can.
- Star Knowledge: Kazumi is able to locate and name any star in the sky, whether visible or not, and can find and name all 88 constellations. She is also able to use this ability to navigate, as she is able to sense where Polaris (The North Star) is at all times. She is also extremely knowledgeable about the characteristics of stars.
- Gyrokinesis: Kazumi is able to manipulate gravity in any form of matter, living or not. She is able to cause others to float, allowing them to fly when she has enough energy and control, and is able to crush enemies with the force of gravity (which she has jokingly called Nuclear Fusion). She is also naturally less affected by gravity than normal humans, allowing her to jump higher, put more pressure into tackling, and at times levitate and fly, though this tires her greatly as it does not come naturally and she does have to actually put effort into manipulating the force of gravity on herself.
- Void Creation: Kazumi is able to can create small personal voids that she can use to trap enemies, store items, or even hold people captive inside, though the more matter inside a void, the harder it is to sustain, and a few of her voids are blessed by Astraeus himself so they can be permanent. When she lets a void go or can no longer control it, she can control where the matter inside it goes.
- Stardust: As an offensive defense, Kazumi is able to summon a dense fog made of stardust that makes it nearly impossible for anyone who is not her to see further than one feet in front of them. The fog also greatly irritates ones eyes, and can cause rashes treatable by Kazumi's star light when someone is exposed for too long.
- Constellation Illusions: Kazumi is able to create an illusion of the constellations (e.g. Columba will show up as a dove, Vulpecula will show up as a fox, Aquarius will show up as a water bearer) of any size, either for enjoyment or as a distraction. It has not been shown yet what would happen if Kazumi attempted to summon an illusion of Perseus or Andromeda, who are her ancestors as well as constellations.
- Supernova: Kazumi is able to generate a small supernova explosion, which will burn anything within a ten meter radius, except for herself. This usually only happens when Kazumi is extremely stressed, as she knows her supernovas cannot and will not tell the difference between friend and foe.
- Zodiac Beasts: Kazumi is able to summon a beast from each of the twelve Zodiacs, more Zodiacs causing more tiredness afterwards, and these Zodiacs can fight of their own free will, but will feel a sense of loyalty towards Kazumi, and if he is present, Astraeus himself. Aries summons a red ram, Taurus a green bull, Gemini a yellow pair of warrior twins, Cancer a silver crab, Leo an orange lion, Virgo a brown maiden, Libra a pink warrior with metal plates for hands, Scorpio a black scorpion, Sagittarius a violet centaur with a bow, Capricorn a gray goat, Aquarius a blue water man, and Pisces a large, sea green fish.

—Chaos to Typhon in When Stars Fall |
Following The House of Hades, Kazumi has earned the blessing of Hades, and dons the title of Champion of the Underworld. As of When Stars Fall, Kazumi has achieved the highest honor in existence as the chosen of Chaos, and as such has arguably become the most powerful demigod of all time. The true extent of her powers is currently unknown, but it is confirmed that she denied immortality, as she did not want to end her life when it had truly just begun.
- Death Sense: Kazumi can sense when those close to her are dying regardless of distance, and is able to tell when someone around her is dying by a ringing in her ears.
- Communication: Kazumi is able to see and communicate with ghosts.
- Shadow Travel: Kazumi is able to shadow travel, an ability that allows her to teleport between two locations as long as there are shadows too and from her destination. However, as she not an actual child of Hades, her shadow traveling is much weaker than Nico's, and she cannot go very far without passing out.
- Mist Control: As the blessed of Hecate, Kazumi is able to control the Mist to the extent where she is able to confuse some minor gods. Prior to this, she was trained by Chiron when she first came to camp, and became quite skilled at it by The Heroes of Olympus, though at the time, she was inferior to the level of Hazel and Hecate's children. As the Acolyte of Chaos, Kazumi is now somewhere under Hecate in terms of mist control, and was able to fool even Typhon.
- Power Boost: As Acolyte of Chaos, all of Kazumi's powers from all of her patron gods are amplified. According to Chaos, this will increase as Kazumi gets older, as she is still currently a child and barely a teenager.
- Telekinesis: Kazumi is able to lift any solid or liquid with just her mind. However, the heavier the object, the harder it is to lift.

- Banishment: Kazumi is able to permanently banish living beings to the void of Chaos, permanently stripping them of their powers and in the case of immortals, effectively scattering them. She has only used this power once, on Typhon, and has stated that she is not sure if she could do it again.
- Harpe: A family heirloom on Natsuki's side, Kazumi is currently the owner of Harpe, a half-adamantine, half-imperial gold sword with a sickle protrusion along the sharp edge near the tip of the blade, which once belonged to Perseus, Kazumi's ancestor. When not in use, Harpe turns into a thick, imperial gold ring with an adamantine centerpiece, which Kazumi wears on her right ring finger.
- Shiroken: One of two swords, Shiroken is a long blade of Astraean Silver attached to a white marble bracelet, hence the name.
- Kuroken: The other of the two swords, Kuroken is an identical blade of Astraean Silver, but attached to a black marble bracelet, hence the name. However, Kuroken is no longer in Kazumi's possession, as she gave it to Souta in The Sword of Storms.
- Souta's Shield Bracelet: Kazumi is currently in possession of Souta's Shield Bracelet, which he gave her after she gave him Kuroken, stating that he only needs one bracelet, but he's used to seeing her with two. The bracelet is a golden chain bracelet with a pendant bearing the symbol of Mercury/Hermes as the centerpiece, which turns into a shield at will of the wearer, while the chain becomes a handle.
- Ryusei Diadem: While visiting her grandparents in Aomori, Kazumi was given a silver diadem by Natsuki, which she would later realize was a gift from her ancestor Perseus to her ancestor Andromeda. She later discovered that the diadem gives off an aura of leadership, which she used to lead both Camps to victory against Typhon.
- Diocletian's Scepter: As Champion of Hades, Kazumi was once able to use Diocletian's Scepter, borrowed from Nico, to summon even more Roman zombies to aid the Eight in the Necromanteion.
