Herman "Jinx" Angelos is a seventeen year old (really thousand year old) Greek son of Hermes and Peitho. He came to camp at seventeen years old

"I just got used to you guys. I ain't finding no new drinking buddies."

History[]

Early Life[]

Herman "Jinx" Angelos was born to Hermes, God of Boundaries, Thieves, Merchants, Travelers, Roads, Commerce, Speed, Gambling, Cunning, Wit, Communication, Philosophy and Alchemy and Peitho, goddess of persuasion and seduction around 1,000 years ago before the events of the series. Hermes, the messenger of the gods and god of thieves, was known for his wit, charm, and swift movements. He was always on the move, delivering messages and engaging in his mischievous antics. Peitho, the goddess of persuasion and seduction, was known for her grace, eloquence, and ability to influence the hearts and minds of both gods and mortals. Hermes hadfirst encountered Peitho while delivering a message to the assembly of the gods on Mount Olympus. As he watched her captivate the entire audience with her persuasive words, he found himself drawn to her presence. Peitho, in turn, was intrigued by Hermes' cleverness and his ability to navigate through any situation with ease.

As they continued to interact, they found themselves engaged in stimulating conversations that challenged their intellect and wit. Hermes appreciated Peitho's ability to sway opinions and win hearts, while Peitho admired Hermes' quick thinking and his ability to adapt to any circumstance. Their connection deepened, and they discovered a mutual understanding and admiration for each other's strengths. Hermes brought a sense of playfulness and spontaneity to Peitho's life, while Peitho offered Hermes a sense of depth and insight that he had not experienced before. From their deepening romance and their union, Peitho bore a son, one who Hermes named Herman, but gained the nickname Jinx during his childhood

Childhood[]

As the son of trickery and persuasion, Herman's life was filled with both chaos and love. Naturally, he grew up splitting his time between the two busybodies, which made for a pretty hectic childhood that, in his mind, outdid other kids even in similar circumstances. One common hang up his parents had regarding him was over who “had” to take him during the weekend to teach him about their domains, seeing as weekends were an especially busy time for gods. Luckily, though, the craziness and unpredictability didn’t last forever. Hermes often took his son, teaching him the ways of tricks, messengers, travelers, etc. During his childhood, Herman gained the name Jinx from his father, due to his son's growing habit of causing trouble around Olympus for the nymphs. His mother taught him the art of persuasion, and she charmed the gods and mortals with her beauty and voice, something Jinx would later gain as well.

Jinx heard of his father's many myths, such as when Hermes was just a baby had just stolen Apollo's sacred cattle. Being a god, he matured rapidly and within a few minutes of his birth stole the cattle of Apollo and invented the lyre. He even thought of a clever way to cover up his crime: tying bundles of grass to the cows' feet and leading them backward out of the pasture to make it look like something had been led into the pasture but not away from it. Despite this, Apollo found out and went to Zeus for justice. When brought before his father on Mount Olympus, Hermes attempted to charm Zeus into letting him go by telling him he was just an innocent newborn baby. Undeceived, but amused by the child's boldness and wit, Zeus instead forced him to compensate Apollo, which Hermes did by presenting him with the lyre. Apollo was instantly enchanted by the instrument and forgot about his anger immediately. Hermes also traded the shepherd's pipe (another invention of his) to Apollo in exchange for his golden staff (Caduceus), sword, and knowledge of the art of prophecy. When he came of age, Hermes was made the messenger of the gods.

Meeting Irida[]

During his time as Herme's junior messenger, Jinx met Irida, another 'junior messenger' and daughter of Iris. The two children would spend their time learning from their parents about being quick and speedy when it came to messaging and Hermes even taught them how to use their speed to play pranks on other nymphs and gods, something Iris didn't nessicarly condone but also didn't mind it; as long as the children were safe and having fun. During this time, Irida developed a crush on Jinx, but he rejected her, saying that he was attracted to boys and not girls. He was seventeen when his parents blessed him with immorality

Coming to Camp[]

After thousands of years of being kept on Olympus, Hermes and Peitho made the choice to send their son to Camp Olympia, in order for him to make friends and for him to experience the mortal world. The sent Jinx from Manhattan, where Mount Olympus was located, and gave him a map to Long Island, and sent him on the way. Once he got to camp, he was claimed as Hermes and Peitho's son.

Personality[]

As the all-rounder of the gods, Hermes is nothing if not cosmopolitan. With his many symbols invoked in every corner of the Mythological World, from fashion to medicine to cars, it’s to be expected that his successors would be equally as magnificent. Unfortunately, Jinx has... approximately none of this appeal. Don’t get him wrong, he’s definitely got the popular and fashionable aspects down pat. Being one of the Young Olympians, his name comes up in conversation quite often, and the guy dresses with purpose and presents himself with a remarkable level of care. But in a school full of the “fairest of them alls”, even that doesn’t guarantee one’s perceived level of dignity. Similarly, with young princesses everywhere forced to prove their intelligence and resolve, Jinx fails to defy an entirely different stereotype altogether: the airheaded demigod. The Olympian version of a dumb jock, his usefulness tends to amount to being the muscle for his more successful classmates, and even then, it’s not really a constant. On some days, he’s the guy taking the nerd’s lunch money, and on others, he’s the bodyguard hired by the same nerd. But in any situation, he’s distinctly not the smartest person in the room. It’s a Greek tragedy that he’s perceived this way, because on some level, he truly is a critical thinker who’s become comfortable and even prone to dissecting a problem. By necessity, he’s had to be, considering the eternal question in his life has been about what his body lacks. But to be fair, a big reason others don’t notice this about him is because he doesn’t want them to. It’s bad enough everyone knows he can’t fly: to know it bothers him as much as it does would not be a dream, but a waking nightmare. As a result, Jinx puts on this careless facade around his peers. After all, if Hermes is destined to have buckets of responsibilities piled onto him, wouldn’t the “cool” thing be to honor precisely none of them? This flawed external logic guides his everyday actions, and despite the fact that he knows all the rules of both godliness and dream-keeping, he’ll break each and every one of them if it means he can distract from his inherent insecurities. Ironically, for such a promiscuous guy, Jinx is a truly, truly awful flirt, taking after his mother, the goddess of seduction. If you’ve had the audacity to be attractive in his vicinity, then you’ve definitely heard “Did it hurt when you fell from Olympus?” or “You must be Cinderella, because I see that dress disappearing by midnight...” on rotation (legend has it he has a 60 percent success rate with getting dates). Honestly, it’s a good thing he’s only destined to relay other people’s messages, because he certainly isn’t such a wordsmith himself. Overall, like a true god of Olympus, Jinx is finicky, ill-tempered, and full of dichotomies. The biggest would have to be that, despite his celestiality, he is so deeply, incredibly human - and not in the most pleasing of ways. But senior year isn’t over yet, and perhaps like the flawed humans, he’ll soon learn to reach for the skies: even if not literally. Jinx is no doubtably Hermes’ son, but he is a grumpy, lazy, and somewhat apathetic young godling who now lies mostly in gambling, parlor tricks, and prolific drinking (which is just Nectar). He can be gruff, standoffish and sarcastic, with a propensity to swear. Despite this, he is also surprisingly patient and able to take a lot of outlandish events in his stride, electing to just 'drink' his problems away later. He is very observant, having the ability to read people and understand their problems well (even when they don't themselves), which makes him quick to notice when someone isn't being genuine with him, something he doesn't enjoy. He values authenticity and seems to understand himself and his own issues well too, openly accepting that his reliance on alcohol and gambling hasn't helped him feel better. He is surprisingly empathetic and willing to give a non-judgmental listening ear to those who need it, he shows a sweeter and more protective side to those he forms a more substantial connection to.

Fatal Flaw[]

Jinx' fatal flaw is Hubris. He tends to think he's the best at everything, even better than the gods

Appearance[]

Herman is a good-looking young man, around seventeen, with dark bronze colored skin, glowing green eyes, and naturally golden blond hair, and an athletic build to go with it. At 6’5”, he towers over the members of The Young Olympian his style skews towards revealing, with mesh fabrics being common, but his sporty background means inspiration from athletic wear is also taken. His official motifs are the caduceus, gates, and wings.
