Airén Kingsley

Airén Kingsley is a fifteen year old, Greek demigod and the daughter of Dionysus and Deandra Kingsley.

History[]

Childhood[]

Airén was born on September 28, 1998 on a rainy day. She lived in the suburbs as a middle-class citizen with her party-crazed mother ever since Dionysus left her. Her mother's tendency to drink and smoke left an impact on her life and grew up without having a responsible role model to look up to. Despite that, she still loved her mother and sometimes took the role of looking after her mother.

She attended public school where she usually got in trouble. Because of her ADHD, she was reckless with her words & actions and is inclined to fidgeting. At a young age, she encountered plenty of monsters and was forced to fight them or run away. She never told her mother about the monsters and kept it to herself, so she won't bother her with her own problems. Some monsters traumatized her that she had to undergo therapy in a psychiatric hospital. Throughout some point in her childhood, she got addicted to her prescribed pills, taking one too much everyday.

Around her high school year, Airén struggled with studies due to her Dyslexia and slacked off a lot on her homework, doodling on her notebook or skipping classes to go somewhere. Her teachers usually gave her long suspensions and detentions, which made her want to skip school even more.

Going to Camp Half-Blood[]

On a Friday afternoon, Airén was stuck in detention after being caught smoking in the bathroom stall. She got a text message from her friends that there was a party in the city nearby her school. Excitedly, she skipped her detention to go. She was stopped by a boy named "Kyrus" and advised her to stay in class. She still left school either way. As soon as she entered the party, she wasted no time drinking and getting high with strangers and friends. While drunk, her friend gave her an electronic cigarette and told her that it can help soothe her anxiety.

Monsters disguised as jocks barged in, trying to sniff her scent after attracting them when she used her phone. Since the party was filled with so much alcohol, bright lights, loud music and smoke, they had a hard time looking for her. Kyrus found her wasted in the bathtub filled with empty cups. He carried her to an empty room where she could sober up. Once she woke up, she was still hungover from all the drinking and drugs. Kyrus revealed to her that he is a satyr and had trouble explaining everything to her about being a demigod and needing to go Camp Half-Blood for safety.

Since she was still drunk, she could only joke about the situation and laugh about his hooves. It took a lot of persuading but she went with him nonetheless.

As they left the party, monsters had already followed her scent and searched the area near the building for her. Kyrus was able to catch the bus to Long Island and soon got away from the monsters. Airén passed out and slept throughout half of the ride, which he did not like since she snored so loudly and had drooled on his jacket.

Minutes later, Kyrus fell asleep as well. When she woke up, his head collided with the seat, but not enough to wake him up. Airén quickly sobered up and was confused as why she was on a bus. She asked the driver where the bus was heading and was completely shocked to realize it was heading for Long Island. Believing she was kidnapped, she told the bus driver to stop and drop her off. The bus abruptly stopped, making Kyrus hurl forwards, suddenly awakening him. As Airén got off the bus, he went after her to bring her back inside. Airén became frustrated and asked Kyrus who he was.

Again, Kyrus summarized everything to her, this time she took the situation very seriously, but differently; she believed Kyrus was a delusional kidnapper. When their conversation ended, the bus had left them alone together in a different city. Without any thought, Airén started to scream and call for help, alarming Kyrus because of monsters hearing them or mortals approaching them. Because of her screams, monsters quickly found their location. Immediately, Kyrus grabbed Airén's hand and made a run for it. As they ran on foot, Airén began to realize that Kyrus had hooves and a trail of monsters chasing after them.

They were able to reach Camp Half-Blood without any severe injuries.

Personality[]

Airén is a self-determined and confident girl. She is brave most of the time, spontaneous, extroverted, and curious for new experiences. Airén likes to depend on herself and only herself and can be seen as more of a support for others. She is seen as straightforward and honest, she says what is on her mind and has no care what most think of her. Her complex nature confuses people in knowing her true goals.

She frequently makes pop culture references and sarcastic comments to humor her and sometimes her peers. Her sharp tongue can easily make friends or enemies, depending on how others view her. She tries to be updated with the trends and hates how demigods aren't allowed to use phones and the internet. Airén loves to express herself creatively and relishes in the people finding her unpredictable.

On the other hand, she shows a crafty and attentive side. She is actually smarter than what appears to be and can plan a strategy while fighting. She is secretly very hardworking, making her a potentially skilled fighter and strategist. Her brain works like a videogame, thinking that if she leveled up, she can win her delusional game. Her observant side is very useful in battle as she can find ways to deduct her opponents’ tactics and corner them.

Sometimes she tends to be impulsive about her decisions and is very stubborn that she would endanger herself to get what she desires such as her accepting a quest from Aphrodite to earn the ability of permanent makeup . She can be slightly bold, insensitive and stand-offish and has a habit of giving people nicknames, as she refers to Percy as "Ocean Man". Other examples include "Know-It-All" for Annabeth, "Emo Boy" for Nico, "Itchy Pants" for Kyrus, and "Charmander" for Leo. As for someone who gives nicknames, she doesn’t mind others give her names, in fact she enjoys whatever nickname she's given.

In contrast to her carefree nature, her internal conflicts and inner problems often highlight the more negative aspects of her personality, such as being rude and distant towards friends and family, especially towards her father, Dionysus. That being said, Airén is far from anti-social. She can get along with campers and has several acquaintances.

Fatal Flaw[]

Her fatal flaw is her avarice. She disregards other people if they have no use to her and will do anything to obtain what she wants no matter what the cost is. She pushes herself to go beyond her limits to attain her desire, even sometimes going too far with her actions. She believes that she can take on things that can overpower her and wants to get the job done as quick as possible without any thought.

Another common flaw is her addiction. Her usage of drugs and consumption of alcohol at a young age is a major weakness. She easily gives in to drinking and relapses after staying clean for months. This creates a harmful cycle in her daily life and has also affected the people around her.

Fears[]

Even though she tries to cover up her fears with a smile and cocky appearance, Airén is afraid of getting too attached with other people. She fears that if she got closer with them, they might betray her or leave her. She also fears abandonment once she gets too attached.

Appearance[]

Airén is a young teenage girl with fair skin, blonde hair and lilac eyes. She usually wears vivid eye makeup look that goes along with her eclectic, yet cute, fashion that accentuates her figure. Throughout the series, her clothing styles often changes taking inspiration from Japanese street fashion,

On special occasions, she dyes her hair into an ombre or colorful shade, ranging from light blue to lavender pink. Sometimes campers mistake her as the daughter of Aphrodite with the way she dresses herself, wearing pastel-colored jackets, baby pink shirts, plaid bottoms and cutesy accessories such as bracelet charms, hair clips and necklaces.

Half of the time she's inside camp, she is never seen wearing dull colors or makeup. Her nails are painted black, contrarily to her fashion, but her reason is that she accidentally colored her nails using a marker. She continues to do paint her nails with a marker, seeing it as tradition for her. Airén also enjoys putting on face stickers and body glitter for fun.

In Blood of Olympus, she sports a red hoodie jacket, black stockings and a navy, mid length pleated skirt.

Abilities and Tools[]

General Abilities[]

ADHD: Like most demigods, Airén possesses inborn supernatural battle reflexes and senses that she uses to analyze the fighting style of her opponent.
Dyslexia: Her brain is "hard-wired" for divine Ancient Greek instead of modern languages.
Fighting Abilities: She shows a decent combat skills in handling a few monsters and enemies. Even though she relies on her powers more, she can defeat a few monsters while using a sword.
Strategic Thinking: Her best skill is her quick-witted tactics and critical thinking. She can come up with creative strategies to help her in battle whenever an enemy can overpower her. Airén is quite skilled in fighting with her extraordinary combat sense, technique, and strong strategic abilities, which make up for her lack of physical strength, speed, and stamina.

Demigod Abilities[]

Chlorokinesis: She can summon, grow and control plants, but usually only vines. She can use it as defense (such as creating vines as a shield), offense (to choke opponents or suffocate them) or to support her in-air.
Alcohol Immunity (limited): She has small amount of immunity towards alcohol and is not fully affected to any of its effects except she can still feel the wooziness effect.
Alcohol Manipulation: She can manipulate alcohol to some extent. She can give someone the effects of alcohol, causing them to feel drunk and intoxicated.
Madness: Her ability to induce madness on others is frequently used in battle and uses it to a large extent that she would tire herself out. She uses this to command an army of people, more easily the drunk, mentally ill and weak-minded. Her large consumption of Xanax, LSD and Librium may be the cause of her usage of inducing madness.
Zookinesis: Airén can communicate with leopards.

Weapon[]

Frenzy (φρενίτιδα): a Celestial Bronze sword with an amethyst gem (charmed by Lou Ellen) on it to channel her madness ability.
A taser she carries in her pocket or bag. She is typically seen with it charging in the Camp store behind the counter. She uses it to stun both monsters and humans.
A baseball bat coated in Imperial Gold. She is aware of the consequence when an Imperial Gold weapon is destroyed and because of that, she is willing to take the risk if it's necessary.

Magic Tools[]

Unlimited Flask: She obtained this flask when she found it hidden in the Big House. The flask is always filled with the user’s liquor of choice, no matter how much the user drinks. She designed it to look cleaner and colorful than before, putting stickers on it.
Electronic Cigarette: She got this cigarette when her friend offered her one to calm her nerves. The E-Cigarette was a key factor to controlling her ability to manipulate madness. She first used this object during a fight between a nymph, merging her madness ability and the smoke to confuse the nymph and spiral her down into a crazed state.

Relationships[]

Friends[]

Kyrus: Their relationship started off rocky since Airén believed he kidnapped her and her disagreement going with him in a Camp Half-Blood for safety. Once she arrived to Camp Half-Blood and was claimed by Dionysus, Kyrus became her protector and looked out for her if she ever misbehaved or was out-of-line. Their friendship is described to be "dynamic, comical and casual" as Airén would be the one causing trouble while Kyrus looked after her.

Leo Valdez: Airén made friends with Leo while he was in camp and would hang out in his cabin to watch him work on his inventions. At first, their interactions were flirty and friendly, making up sarcastic jokes and cheering up each other through food and long conversations. She is seen helping him with his shenanigans and planning out ideas. In some moments, they are seen watching anime together, catching up to series like Gintama and Fullmetal Alchemist, or playing videogames like Pokemon. Their relationship never went past romantic and stayed close friends.

Lou Ellen Blackstone: They first met in a game of volleyball, where Lou enchanted the ball to feel ten times heavier to make the game a little difficult. She never seen real magic before, so she quickly became interested in her. They easily made friends with each other and usually had friendly conversations in their respective cabins. Airén helps with Lou Ellen to master a spell that can make phones stop attracting monsters.

Billie Ng: She shows to be friendly towards the daughter of Demeter and the two of them will ask each other to dye their hair every once in a while. Billie would bring some food to her cabin when she made some extra snacks with the nymphs. Airén constantly borrows Billie's dye kit, in exchange of doing her makeup.

Will Solace: Will was the first person to show her around camp and explaining her the past events that occurred. She enjoys hanging out with him in the infirmary to talk about anything that has happened in camp and always takes his healing advice. Will becomes extremely strict with Airén's drug consumption and would get extremely angry if she relapses, since he deeply worries about her health.

Family[]

Deandra Kingsley: She cares for her mother in a genuine manner and is deeply concerned when she stays out late partying and drinking. Her mother depends on her with certain things such as paying bills, preparing breakfast every morning and reminding her about important dates. Her mother does love her, but isn't willing to give up her pleasures for Airén's sake. There are some moments when Airén leaves for Camp Half-Blood, Deandra tends to get lonely in the house and would send letters to her everyday. During the Trials of Apollo, she tries to quit drinking for Airén and goes into rehabilitation.

Dionysus: After he claimed Airén as his child, she initially started to dislike him for his insensitive personality and telling the whole truth about her birth. She would always keep a cold expression whenever she was around him and would hardened her gaze whenever he passed by. Around the events of The Lost Hero, they finally mended their relationship and started again. She is seen calling him "old man" and Dionysus calling her "Berry Brat" in an teasing, yet warm manner. Though they may not show it, they deeply care for each other.

Pollux: She and her half-brother, Pollux, have a typical brother-sister relationship. He helped her get around the game of Capture the Flag and offered her some soda afterwards. He would give her good advice during battles and would train her how to use her sword. Airén views him as a little "protective", but she understands that he lost Castor, his twin brother in a battle. Though at first meeting, Pollux had mixed feelings around Airén, since he thought that Airén was going to replace Castor and acted a little cold towards her.

Trivia[]

To her, ambrosia tastes like “strawberry cake that her mother used to make during spring” and nectar tastes like a “refreshing cup of water you get when you wake up at 3 am”
Airén is named after a white wine grape. The taste is described to have a lack of acidity and is quite tasty and pleasant, easy to drink, though not 'elegant'.
- Interestingly enough, a white wine grape was named after Bacchus, the Roman counterpart of Dionysus.
Her addiction to her prescribed pills started when she was 13 years old.
She enjoys watching anime. Her most recent watched shows are Cowboy Bebop, Detective Conan and Sailor Moon.
- Her clothing style is based on "kawaii" fashion, wearing pastel colored hoodies and strawberry themed outfits.

Airén has a natural scent of strawberries and grapes, but it was tampered due to the alcohol she drank at parties.
She is more in touch with the wild side of Dionysus.
Before she was claimed, she hoped that she could be the daughter of Aphrodite and wanted to have her blessing of permanent makeup. When she did meet Aphrodite, she asked if she could do any quests for her to have her blessing.
Her name is pronounced as "Ey-ren", not "Ai-ren". She dislikes whenever most people mispronounce her name. Her father, Dionysus has never mispronounced her name since he was the one who picked out the name for her.
